Startpage’s privacy partnerships

Startpage is partnering with privacy-friendly organizations to help users navigate the web while protecting their privacy.

You should be using a private search engine. Why? It’s quite simple. Privacy matters. And, that is especially true when searching online.

We created Startpage with the aim of giving people back control over their data without compromising the quality of the search results. But we haven’t stopped there! Our team at Startpage is constantly expanding our network of strategic partners so that our private search engine is widely available across the Internet.

With partners from Vivaldi to Volla Phone and Tomorrow.io, our partners have developed great products that make your digital life easier in different ways. In working together, we can help even more people to find useful information on the Internet while enjoying the protection of their privacy

Connecting with a privacy-friendly browser

When it comes to data privacy, choosing the right browser is essential.

You can set Startpage as the default search engine in a number of the most popular browsers. But! There are some recommended alternatives to the big ones in this area, for whom the protection of your data is important. That is why we have been cooperating with the following browsers for a while:

Vivaldi

Like Startpage, Vivaldi is based in Europe. Vivaldi browser is fast, customizable, and features a built-in ad and tracker blocker. With these instructions you add Startpage as the default search engine in Vivaldi.

Brave

The Brave Browser has many pre-installed features that block tracking and advertising-related tracking, scripts and resources by default. Here’s how to make Startpage your default search engine in Brave.

SeaMonkey

The SeaMonkey project is a joint project to develop the SeaMonkey Internet Application Suite. It contains an Internet browser, an e-mail and newsgroup client with an integrated web feed reader, an HTML editor, an IRC chat and tools for web development, making it the web for advanced users -Developers and corporate clients interesting. Startpage has been the standard search engine since 2020.

Waterfox

The Waterfox Browser is based on Firefox, but has made some changes in terms of data protection, such as telemetry and data acquisition. You can make Startpage the default search engine in Waterfox by visiting https://add.startpage.gg/ to download the extension.

Midori browser

The Midori Browser is an open source project with a focus on ease of use, speed and security. The focus is on the privacy of the users and is protected by a mechanism that makes it difficult to track users. For even more privacy, Startpage can be used here as the standard search engine.

Qutebrowser

The qutebrowser is a Python-based browser with a minimalistic graphical user interface. It can only be controlled via the keyboard and has an integrated ad blocker. The settings can be easily adapted to your own requirements, e.g. with Startpage as the default search engine.

WebOnTV

WebOnTV is an Android app that allows you to browse the internet on your television. It has its home in Europe and is therefore subject to the GDPR – as is Startpage. For more privacy in the living room, Startpage can be added here as a standard search engine.

Our partners for fast and reliable search results

As a search engine, it’s our mission to deliver reliable and useful search results without you having to compromise on data protection. Our team is therefore always busy developing additional instant answers and widgets so that you can find quick answers to your questions. For some features, we have partnered with other organizations that deliver high-quality results. In combination with Startpage, these features are then available with full privacy.

Tomorrow.io

With Tomorrow.io as a partner, we recently expanded our private weather feature. Tomorrow.io’s robust API provides industry-leading widgets that contain a wide range of weather data such as air quality, pollutants, pollen, precipitation and much more.

MapQuest

MapQuest is our partner for local maps. If you enter “map + [place]” in the search bar, you will find an overview map of the respective place. MapQuest’s free map and routing services are based on geospatial data from commercial and free providers.

You can find a list of all of Startpage’s instant answers here.

More privacy on your devices

Volla Phone

Since this year we have been a proud partner of Volla Phone, an alternative to conventional smartphones whose mission is to better protect the privacy of users. Instead of apps, Volla offers a quick start to all important everyday functions on the home screen, the “springboard”. Startpage can also be called up directly as an anonymous search engine without a browser.

Ivacy VPN

The VPN provider Ivacy supports users around the world in protecting their data by hiding IP addresses, offering 256-bit encryption and not selling user data to third parties. The VPN can be used on various operating systems and mobile applications and has been offering Startpage as an automatic anonymous search option since 2020.

With these different partnerships we can make your digital life safer. If you have any ideas or wishes for further partnerships, you are welcome to write to us on our social media channels or at [email protected].
